Just a quick post since I've been away for too long. I'm still here, just very busy and haven't quite figured out how to make more time in my day for blogging! I'm keeping the hope alive that I'll figure it out at some point though...

In the time I've been gone, zazzle has yet again added a bunch of new products! Things like dart boards, yard signs, playing cards, and so many other things. I will never catch up with that! So here are some great examples from other amazing artists!

(Can you tell I am very ready for the arrival of Fall?!)

And just because I can't help it, here's a recent picture of Leo, whose birthday is coming up way too quickly.
Can't believe he's gotten so big and is now walking! Where'd my little baby go?! :) :)

Today I sent off a package of 85 homemade cards to Operation Write Home, an organization that sends our troops special, handmade cards for them to send home to their families.  If you enjoy paper-crafting or card-making and have more cards than you can possibly send, or just want to do something nice, check out their website for all the details!

My Favorite Photo From March

I take pictures of Leo almost every day. My computer is in desperate need of external storage!  But I rarely get any photos after bath time because we are doing the whole bedtime routine.
On this day, thanks to a baby who is all about exploring his food, we were early with bath, and I was able to capture the sleepy-eyed, just-washed-hair, ready-for-bed look.  It's  not the best photo from March, but it is my favorite!

Just because I can't resist, here are some runners up:

I love a good baby costume!

Leo's first swing ride.
Feeding himself and proud of it.
Pure silliness.

If you have kids and a camera and a blog, Paper Mama's Photo Challenge may be just the thing for you!

What Makes You Laugh: Part II

After posting Leo laughing pics, I recieved a comment about getting a video of the laughs.  I'm here to tell you, if you're at all interested, that we have captured a few.  None of them do it justice though - as soon as my son realizes the video camera is out, that is way more interesting than whatever it was that was making him laugh in the first place.

My husband has made Leo his own youtube just for videos of him (Yes, we're those parents.), and it's here if you're in need of some giggles and just general everyday baby cuteness.

IF: Return

The theme this week at Illustration Friday is return...

So here's to the return of Spring, 70 degree days, long afternoon walks, weekend trips to the arboretum, and especially to all the blooming trees that make even the most crowded sea of houses here in NOVA beautiful for a little while.

Little Hands & Feet

A few days ago, I realized that we had never gotten around to getting any hand prints of Leo as a baby.  I bought a big ink pad and made it happen - 28 weeks late, but better late than never. They turned out so cute, I decided to make 5x7's for all of my family members for Easter (my mother's already got hers framed).

I think there's something magical about his little hands and feet in all these pretty colors - it will one day be a beautiful reminder that he really did used to be that small...

Sunday Sketches

Trying to get back into the swing of things after being away from creating and blogging is not easy, especially with my almost seven-month-old beginning to crawl!   But, I'm determined, and next Sunday I will have a brand spanking new sketch to show for it.  But today, I'm going back to some old ones...

As the days here get warmer (yay, Spring!), part of our daily routine is going for a long afternoon walk. On the lucky days when Leo falls asleep in his stroller, I park him in the driveway and open up the garage in what seems like a futile attempt to clean it out.

Last week I found an old box of my college sketchbooks for various art classes, so I thought I'd share a completely different artistic me for Sunday Sketches.  As I looked through all of the pages, I started to think maybe I should get back to this more realistic style.  I had almost convinced myself to take a hiatus from my birds & trees when I saw it...

Tucked in corner of a page there was a bird... probably the first one I ever drew in the style I still use today. I have no recollection of drawing it at all, and it wasn't until many, many years later that I started drawing and painting the birds on a regular basis.  I'm taking it as a sign that I should stick with my designs... besides, I much prefer drawing trees happy and full of life than this sketch I found...

What Makes You Laugh?

I recently discovered the 52 Photos Project blog. Love the idea.  I'm going to start fresh with project #1 when the next round starts up in April, but in the meantime had to do a practice post for #48...

What Makes You Laugh?

Lately, this guy.

He's at this wonderful age where pretty much anything you do or say is just hysterical.  This is my first baby, so I really have no idea if he laughs more than others, but Leo is smiling or laughing all the time.  On the current list of hysterical things that evoke deep belly laughs are the following:
  • The words "Hip Hop" and "Toot Toot" spoken with a British accent.
  • Watching anyone dance with enthusiasm, especially if they are dancing to M.C. Hammer. (Yes, folks, you read it right).
  • Having someone walk behind him or up the stairs after him. (You can imagine how fun this is in public).
  • Sneezing (himself or anyone else).
  • Our cat.
His laughing is so contageous, you can't help but join in the fun - it's just good for the soul.

Splish Splash

The theme this week over at Creative Tuesdays is April Showers

This design is an older one that I called "Rain Shower", so I think it's quite fitting! If I were one of these birds, (as much as I'd like to say I'd be the one splashing around in the puddles), I'm pretty sure I'd be the one curled up in the nest enjoying the rain singing me to sleep...

What Year Is It?

I'm back. At least I hope I'm back. I've been working up the energy and trying to snag some time to get back into the swing of things - painting, designing, blogging, and all the things I used to love to do in my spare time. The problem for the last six months is I have had very little spare time!  I can't say I'm sad about that though, because this is the reason:
I think I might have the cutest, happiest baby on the planet.  He's been so much fun, I can't complain at all about having very little time for my shop or this blog.  But, if I'm ever going to come back to this (and I very much want to) I need to get in gear.  Last week, I checked in at my shop at zazzle. So much has changed in the last six months, I felt like I'd woken up and needed to ask, "What year is it?!"  I can't even believe the amount of new products they've added. It will be completely impossible to catch up.  If I tried, I wouldn't paint anything new for years, I'm sure of it.  So you probably wont be seeing my designs on MacBook Sleeves or Blackberry Cases, and that's okay.  I need to go one step at a time, start fresh, because in all honesty - I still don't have much free time.  The only reason this blog is getting written is because Leo woke up at 4am, and I never went back to sleep.  So, no promises here, but I am going to try to get productive again, join in the group challenge blogs again, create some new work again, and make some time for myself again... even if it's always this early.
