Operation Write Home

Today I sent off a package of 85 homemade cards to Operation Write Home, an organization that sends our troops special, handmade cards for them to send home to their families.  If you enjoy paper-crafting or card-making and have more cards than you can possibly send, or just want to do something nice, check out their website for all the details!

My Favorite Photo From March

I take pictures of Leo almost every day. My computer is in desperate need of external storage!  But I rarely get any photos after bath time because we are doing the whole bedtime routine.
On this day, thanks to a baby who is all about exploring his food, we were early with bath, and I was able to capture the sleepy-eyed, just-washed-hair, ready-for-bed look.  It's  not the best photo from March, but it is my favorite!

Just because I can't resist, here are some runners up:

I love a good baby costume!

Leo's first swing ride.
Feeding himself and proud of it.
Pure silliness.

What Makes You Laugh: Part II

After posting Leo laughing pics, I recieved a comment about getting a video of the laughs.  I'm here to tell you, if you're at all interested, that we have captured a few.  None of them do it justice though - as soon as my son realizes the video camera is out, that is way more interesting than whatever it was that was making him laugh in the first place.

My husband has made Leo his own youtube just for videos of him (Yes, we're those parents.), and it's here if you're in need of some giggles and just general everyday baby cuteness.

IF: Return

The theme this week at Illustration Friday is return...

So here's to the return of Spring, 70 degree days, long afternoon walks, weekend trips to the arboretum, and especially to all the blooming trees that make even the most crowded sea of houses here in NOVA beautiful for a little while.

Little Hands & Feet

A few days ago, I realized that we had never gotten around to getting any hand prints of Leo as a baby.  I bought a big ink pad and made it happen - 28 weeks late, but better late than never. They turned out so cute, I decided to make 5x7's for all of my family members for Easter (my mother's already got hers framed).

I think there's something magical about his little hands and feet in all these pretty colors - it will one day be a beautiful reminder that he really did used to be that small...

Sunday Sketches

Trying to get back into the swing of things after being away from creating and blogging is not easy, especially with my almost seven-month-old beginning to crawl!   But, I'm determined, and next Sunday I will have a brand spanking new sketch to show for it.  But today, I'm going back to some old ones...

As the days here get warmer (yay, Spring!), part of our daily routine is going for a long afternoon walk. On the lucky days when Leo falls asleep in his stroller, I park him in the driveway and open up the garage in what seems like a futile attempt to clean it out.

Last week I found an old box of my college sketchbooks for various art classes, so I thought I'd share a completely different artistic me for Sunday Sketches.  As I looked through all of the pages, I started to think maybe I should get back to this more realistic style.  I had almost convinced myself to take a hiatus from my birds & trees when I saw it...

Tucked in corner of a page there was a bird... probably the first one I ever drew in the style I still use today. I have no recollection of drawing it at all, and it wasn't until many, many years later that I started drawing and painting the birds on a regular basis.  I'm taking it as a sign that I should stick with my designs... besides, I much prefer drawing trees happy and full of life than this sketch I found...
